Our History:
Calvary Heights Baptist Church was
started by Reverend Charles Perkins
(second from left) in 1972.
They first met at the Community Building
in South Wales, New York.
The present church property was then purchased with the
church building being built in 1975.
The original church building weathered the Buffalo snow until 1997.
The History of the Pastorate at CHBC:
- Pastor Perkins remained the pastor until 1976.
- Kenneth Plunk then oversaw the ministry from 1976-1977.
- George Johnson filled the office of pastor from February 1978 until December 1978.
- The church then called Pastor Dale Nuijens to fill that special role of Shepherd in March 1979.
Pastor Nuijens has faithfully ministered since that day! See the celebration by clicking here.
Over the years, God would bless & the church would grow. Space was needed and so, the original church building would receive an addition in 1997, with the project being completed in 1998.
The addition increased the size of the auditorium, the upper and lower lobbies as well as Sunday school space. It also made our facilities handicap accessible, complete with an elevator. The large carport has provided further convenience and safety, especially in times of wonderful Buffalo winter!
Other Capital Improvement Projects that God has blessed us with include:
- Our church auditorium became Air-Conditioned in 2003.
- Our parking lot was Paved in 2005.
- Our sanctuary seating was replaced with ergonomically-sound Seating in 2007.
- Our auditorium received a new Audio/Visual System in 2008.
